Baseball Falls in Oakton Series

Schaumburg, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team was bested by Oakton in their conference matchup series.

The Spartans move to 11-21 overall and 5-4 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play.

April 14: Oakton 13, Elgin 8

Caleb Williams, Casey Kaszniak, Sean Sherwood and Kyle Wayda made appearances on the mound. Kaszniak collected two strikeouts in 1.1 innings and Wayda registered two in 2.2 innings.

Connor Lund, Jack Perrone and Carter Novelli recorded doubles. Perrone led the team with two runs while Reed Burns tallied a team-high two hits.

April 20: Elgin 6, Oakton 7

Matthew Rosado started on the mound and went six innings with three strikeouts. Wayda came in for two innings of relief and struckout one batter.

Brennan Coyle tripled in the first inning and scored on Lund's ground ball to the shortstop. Lund advanced on Ryan Schneider's groundout before scoring on Burns' line drive to right field to take a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Schneider hit a solo homerun in the top of the third to put another run on the board. Oakton brought in one run in the third and two in the fourth to make it a 3-3 ball game after four innings.

Nathan Gerritsen led off the fifth inning with a double and made it to third on Coyle's bunt single. Lund grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to score a run before Oakton tied it up once again after five innings.

Matthew Brunscheen singled and scored on Perrone's single to center in the top of the sixth. Schneider was hit by a pitch to get on base in the seventh. He advanced to second on Burns' single and to third on Wyatt Sabalaskey's fielder's choice to the shortstop. Brunscheen hit a sacrifice fly to extend Elgin's lead to 6-4.

Oakton hit a two-run homer in the seventh to tie it up again before hitting a solo homerun in the eighth to take 7-6 lead and hang on for the win.

The Spartans are back on the road to face Lake County for a single game on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
